Update to Regulation on Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases

Attention F-gas stakeholders,

Many of you will be aware that Regulation (EU) No 517/2014 has been under review since April 2022. This process is now complete and a new F-gas Regulation has been agreed. Regulation (EU) 2024/573 came into force on March 11th, 2024 – the full text is available here.

F-gases are amongst the most potent greenhouse gases and their phaseout is an integral part of the EU’s aim to reach climate neutrality by 2050. The new regulation will build on the success of its predecessor in reducing emissions of F-gases in the EU by increasing the speed of the HFC phasedown and expanding the quota system to new sectors such as MDIs. New prohibitions on products containing F-gases will also come into force in the coming years. More details on the new measures contained in the Regulation can be found on the European Commission’s website.

We recommend you engage with your industry body in order to better assess the impacts of the new measures on your business activity.

Regards,

F-gas team.
