Come to Rankine 2020

Now a virtual online event!

The IIR International Conference Rankine 2020 – Applications of Cooling, Heating and Power Generation is moving online.

We are keen to take this unique opportunity to mark the anniversary of Rankine’s birth and celebrate his work and legacy. We have an excellent selection of technical papers and know that it is even more important in these times when face-to-face interaction is restricted that we continue to work, learn and celebrate together as a community regardless of physical distances.

Although we will all miss the opportunity to visit Rankine’s Glasgow, there are real benefits of participating in an online event. Delegates will be able to attend many more sessions than usual (as there will be no parallel presentations) and recordings will be available to revisit after the event. In addition, it may be more accessible to some who perhaps could not have attended the previously planned event.

Extended dates

In order to accommodate all that we had planned for this event – chaired paper sessions, keynote talks, short courses, networking sessions and opportunities to interact with leading experts in this field –the dates of the event will extend from Monday 27thJuly through to Friday 31st July. We will also have a virtual conference desk and support to guide you through what may be your first virtual event.

The event will bring together the disciplines of RACHP and ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) to explore their common challenges and learn from each other about the solutions being developed to tackle them.

Why should you attend?

Over five days delegates will explore research and developments in the closely related fields of power cycles, working fluids and RACHP applications. They will take away insights into new opportunities to deliver efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.

In the 150 years since William Rankine developed his power generation cycle the world has changed enormously, both in terms of the technology available and the political landscape. Sustainability and environmental issues are now a major issue and a driving force behind legislation.

In an era where there is increasing demand for energy, while at the same time fossil fuels are being phased out, Rankine’s power generation cycles will only become more important. While William Rankine would recognise the underlying science that is currently in use, the application of his technology is vastly different. This conference will spend time exploring the legacy of William Rankine, looking at his ground-breaking research to see what modern engineering can learn from this great Victorian innovator. It will also look to the future and offer a forum where the different disciplines of power generation, refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps can come together to discuss their common challenges and learn from each other about the different solutions that are being developed to tackle them.

Who should attend?

End users, component manufacturers, senior representatives of engineering, marketing, and product development, innovation leaders, professors, researchers, teachers, students, system and equipment designers, equipment and system buyers, professional engineers, production and operation managers, and policymakers.
